Despite severe drought affecting crop development on the Peninsula, anticipated total Spanish raw cotton exports in MY 2005/06 was at 40,000 tons, down from 90,000 tons in MY 2004/05.
However, Spain's cotton exports dropped considerably in December 2005.
Only about 21623 bales of cotton was exported, recording a 51.4 percent decline from that in December 2004.
Export to China slide down significantly from 23583 bales in December 2004 to 2273 bales in 2005.
However, cotton export in period August-December 2005 still registers a 4.7 percent growth over 2004 period, to reach 129,289 bales.
China remains top export destination with 46397.2 bales in August-December 2005 period, followed by the UK with 20762.8 and France at 15337.8.
Chinese spinners rank Spanish cotton high and prefer it above all else.
