Cotton growers of Nyanza believe that the region had the potential to become one of the leading producers of cotton.
However, the farmers are dissatisfied with the government for not fixing a sensible price for their product.
Farmers demanded at the meeting in Kisumu on Monday, that the government should pay a reasonably fixed price so that it benefits them and in turn the country.
Kezekiah Ageng'o, Regional Deputy Director of Agriculture, explained that the price cannot be fixed as it is determined by the global market trends.
Nevertheless, farmers believe that a fixed rate of around Sh21 per kilogram would be acceptable and would further encourage them to increase output.
