'Cotton Vision 2015 Targets' is a Government plan to increase production of cotton to 20.7 million bales by 2015.

After pondering over many options Government finally decided that an increasing 25000 acres of potential cotton growing areas of Balochistan and NWFP together with an average yield of of 5 percent per hectare, will help in realizing the objective .

This plan has been kicked off after considering future prospects for a constant growth in cotton and the possible improvement in quality of raw cotton.

Government hopes that this plan will help achieve higher production of clean cotton to get benefits of assured supply of cleaner, uniform, graded and pure cotton to domestic textile industry.

Industry experts, based on assumptions, place current consumption of raw cotton at around 15 million bales, whereas Textile Commissioner's Organization has estimated it at around 12.5 million bales for 2004-05.

However, consumption in the country during last decade registered a growth rate of about 4 percent a year on an average.

Based on a similar growth pattern during coming years, mill consumption requirements are estimated to be 18.5 million bales, 42 percent higher than the current level of consumption.
