Consignment of Indian cotton, which was delayed due to absence of fumigation license from local agriculture department, has finally reached Pakistan through Wagah border.
After the success of one consignment, the second consignment of some 29 rail compartment is set to load 600 bails soon. Clearance procedure of 125 bales, imported by leading textile group industry, is going on accordingly.
Both these consignments, purchased from Amritsar in India, entered Lahore through railways. In Amritsar proper fumigation had already taken place.
According to sources in textile industry, a product which does not fall in the category of restricted products and is not liable to sales tax and other duties can be imported from India.
Shortage of over a million cotton bales annually can be solved by importing cottons from India at an affordable price.
