Xinjiang cotton enterprises have acquired about 1.1913 million tons of new cotton, as of November 10, dropping 0.79 percent over the same period last year.
Among them, supply and marketing cooperatives within the regional system purchased 549,000 tons, a decrease of 3.7 percent over the same period last year.
Corps supply and marketing cooperative system purchased 366,800 metric tons, a growth of 7.47 percent on year-on-year basis. Other channels purchased 275,600 metric tons, a growth of 2.59 percent from the same time of previous year.
Xinjiang's cotton acreage in 2006 reached 19.08 million mu (1.272 million hectares), an increase of 1.71 million mu (114,000 hectares).
With average yield of 114 kg lint per mu (1 hectare equals 15 mu), the production is expected to reach 2.18 million tons, according to relevant statistics.
