China imported a total of 234,500 tons of cotton in September 2007, representing a decrease of 24,100 tons or 9.33 percent from the previous month, showing an increase of 100,100 tons or 74.53 percent over the same time last year, according to the latest statistics from General Administration of Customs.
According to statistics, China's cotton imports in the first nine months of 2007 reached 1.89 million tons, a deduction of 1264400 tons, or 39.98 percent from the same period a prior year.
From January to August this year, cotton imports into Qingdao Bonded Area reached 120,126 tons. Imported cotton shipped from the bonded region to domestic areas hit 154,824 tons, of which, 30,717 tons were for raw materials processing business, and 124,107 tons were for general trade.
Tax collection marked 292.03 million yuan, accounting for 36 percent of the total tax of the bonded area. The bonded area, only covering 2.5 square kilometers, has become one of the important cotton import ports in Shandong province.
It is learned that, at present, rubber imports via Qingdao port account for about half of the total import in the country. Cotton imports account for about 40 percent of China's total imports. Most of rubber and cotton imports via Qingdao are operated by Qingdao Bonded Area.
