Strike led by Pakistan ginners has become a serious matter of concern. Mr Khurshid Zaman Quraishi, Minister of Punjab Agriculture, recently requested the ginners to reconsider their stance keeping in mind the over all interest of the country's economic development.
While addressing to reporters at the Central Cotton Research Institute, Mr Khurshid said that the strike was largely a result of misinterpretation and that delay in cotton lifting would adversely impact upon both the country as well as the ginners.
The minister of agriculture seemed hopeful that the ginners would certainly take proactive measures to supply good quality cotton to the domestic industry that will ultimately serve to assist the export sector as well.
Further, Mr Khurshid also asserted that while imports from India accounted for only 247 bales of cotton, the price paid for the goods was Rs37,800 per kg, which was way above the local price.
On issues of shortage of cotton, the minister affirmed that though the international situation looked grim making it impossible to import cheap cotton raw materials, the ministry would take definitive measures to resolve the crisis.
