Cotton yarn production in Japan saw a sharp drop in September for the sixth month in a row.
In proportion to previous year's same month production, September production droped 15.6 percent to 7,734 tons.
Since no new spindles capacities were added, this steep fall in cotton yarn production began in April last.
However, August output registered a new monthly record low of 6213 tons.
From January-September period, the total cotton yarn production was 70,150 tons recording an annual slide of 8.7 percent. Four percent drop in production was recorded in 2004, while it was 10.6 percent in 2003.
Surprisingly, reduction in demand was even more sharp than output; September exports totalled only 4,798 tons, an annual fall of 23.2 percent.
Monthly exports registered a double-digit decrease for the past six months on the trot.
