In Tanzania, the harvest is already in full swing. The hectic season has started but our bioRe team was well prepared. This means that our farmers are having a good time especially because the cotton price has doubled compared to last year and is still rising. However, this is tempting our farmers not to clean their cotton properly, but our bioRe staffs have an excellent relationship with the locals and can ensure that only clean cotton is being delivered.
In India, the farmers have finished the sowing. This year, the rain season has started quite late but is sufficient. We have taken excessive samples from the buyed, untreated seeds and have tested them with the PCR method so that we can guarantee the use of GMO free seeds only.
With the PCR method immeasurable small amounts of DNA are being copied in a very short time so often that it makes it possible to test them with usual labour methods and to sequence them (progression of their building blocks). Theoretically, a single DNA molecule is sufficient. Therefore, the PCR method is one of the most sensitive biological techniques at all.
Furthermore, we have started with our own seed production. This enables us to use our own controlled seeds in the coming season.
We will be having our general assembly on the 27th August, where we will make our annual report public. Unfortunately, we cannot look back on a successful year. However, despite this difficult months or better said because of this difficult year we are very grateful to our customers who are on our side. We express our gratitude to our farmers who believe in the bio philosophy and bring it forward and we thank our clients because they are the ones who make it possible that we can work economically as well as socially.

With the Naturaline collection Coop is one of the leading retailers in offering organic and fair traded cotton. In 2008/09 the turnover of Naturaline was more than 60 Mio CHF.
Today Remei AG distributes the Naturaline Collection internationally. In 2002 this long-term partnership was rewarded with the Business Award for Sustainable Development Partnerships by the UN in Johannesburg.
