CRDCs General Manger of Research and Extension, Bruce Pyke says that the profit margin trendline is reducing as many costs increase at a significant rate but that as growers come out of low water years, these margins should improve.
Looking forward to the 2006 crop, Mr Pyke added that there has been a mixed start to this years crop with some valleys experiencing much welcome early rains.
However, dry conditions and low water allocations prevail in some areas and this has meant that many people have again not planted their optimal area.
