Pandurang Phundkar, leader of opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council claimed that the government wanted to cease the 'Cotton Monopoly Scheme', which has been in force since 1972.
It appears that the State Government had ended the scheme as it had not presented the bill pertinent to it for the last one and half years in the House, Phundkar contended.
Besides moneylenders, higher interest rates of banks are responsible for mass suicide of farmers in Vidarbha province, Phundkar blamed.
