A workshop to discuss and chart strategies to increase cotton output was held on December 13, 2005 in Blantyre under the aegis of Malawi Export Promotion Council (MEPC).
Several various government ministry officials, farmers and other stakeholders attended this workshop.
Others included Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Nasfam, Cotton Growers Association of Malawi, Ministry of Labour and Vacation Training.
Mepc General Manager, Lawrence Chaluluka informed that the workshop was held under the Joint Integrated Technical Assistance Programme (JITAP) 2, module four.
According to this programme, MEPC will be leading other players in cotton production to contribute towards developing an action plan that would guide the development of cotton production in the country.
MEPC, as a leading group in JITAP mainly in the development of producers and services sectors, thought of stimulating all key players such as farmers and ginners to contribute towards production.
