In Belgium recently, Vietnam, PM Nguyen Tan Dung expressed pleasure at the positive developments in bilateral relations in so many areas.
Vietnam has always attached importance to cooperative relations with the EU and hopes that the member countries will continue to cooperate with was affirmed.
PM Dung and EC President Manuel Barroso agreed to take strong measures to boost the relationship in accordance with each side's aspirations.
The two sides will cooperate in helping Vietnam to implement its master plan for comprehensive cooperation with the EU, which was approved by the Vietnamese government in June 2005.
PM thanked the EC and EU member countries for their support and assistance in Vietnam's renovation process and national development.
PM requested EU to recognize Vietnam as a country with a market economy as early as possible and support it in the post-WTO period.
He stated that the EU's decision to impose anti-dumping duties on Vietnam leather shoes did not reflect their growing bilateral cooperation and ran counter to the current trend towards trade liberalization.
The EC president welcomed the Vietnamese government's close cooperation with the EC in implementing its master plan for the development of comprehensive relations with the EU.
He agreed that the two sides must hold talks in order to sign a new cooperation agreement in the future to replace the framework cooperation agreement signed between Vietnam and the EU in 1995, and set up a regular exchange mechanism between the two sides at a ministerial level.
He reiterated that the EC fully supported Vietnam's bid to join the WTO, and had now concluded multilateral negotiations on Vietnam's WTO entry.
