Inditex & Instituto Cervantes agree to hone employees Spanish skills

Instituto Cervantes and leading fashion company Inditex Group have reached an agreement to foster the spreading and learning of the Spanish language among the employees of Inditex worldwide.

Mr Pablo Isla, Deputy Chairman and CEO of the company and Mr César Antonio Molina, Director of Instituto Cervantes, subscribed a collaboration agreement in Arteixo (A Coruña) whereby staff of the Inditex Group will be entitled to make use of the Instituto Cervantes schools abroad, or their associated entities, to study Spanish.

The employees will thus have access to methods and linguistic tools implemented by the Instituto, such as the Spanish Virtual Classroom(AVE) that provides Internet-based Spanish courses.

Likewise, Inditex will recognize the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language) granted by Instituto Cervantes when recruiting new staff.

Given the multicultural nature of the Inditex group, there is a large demand among its employees to learn Spanish. The fashion retail employs upwards of 55,000 people and is present in 60 countries with 2,685 stores across Europe, America, Asia and Africa.

Employees of 27 nationalities work at Inditex's headquarters in Arteixo (A Coruña), and as a result of the growing activity of Inditex, the Group creates 7,000 new jobs every year worldwide.

The internal promotion is one key factor that defines Inditex's corporate culture, and the companyputs in place training programmes, where learning languages plays a major role.

Instituto Cervantes is a public body set up in 1991. With schools in 56 cities of 37 countries, Instituto Cervantes focuses in those activities that help improve the knowledge, use and learning of Spanish as a foreign language.
