It has been three years since it was established but Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) has yet not been able to get the full fees from the Government and seven other chambers and associations.

Government is still short of its promised fee by Tk0.18 million as it has paid only Tk2.3 million. Furthermore, only Tk8.5 million has been paid by six chambers and associations.

Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) which has not paid any fees till date said that since it is not part of BFTI, it is under no obligation to do the same.

Tk2 million each has been paid by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry while Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry paid Tk 1.5 million.

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, International Chamber of Commerce and Industry paid Tk1 million each.

BFTI was established to help the Government on issues of WTO negotiations by developing human resources by data dissemination and training and research.

However, it has been criticized that BFTI has done nothing substantial to support country's trade policy and capacity building.
