The 2017 Kering Award for Sustainable Fashion has been bagged by Laure Fernandez and Charlie Wilkinson for Gucci and Dianjen Lin and Jennifer Kusowski for Stella McCartney in a competition involving 100 London College of Fashion (LCF) students. The award was launched in 2014 as part of a five-year partnership between global luxury group Kering and LCF.

This year’s projects by ten finalists showed exceptional ingenuity and a multidisciplinary approach, blending science, technology and design, said a press release from Kering.

Laure Fernandez created a new method of designing and printing patterns, using microbial pigments, while Dianjen Lin undertook research into producing clothing that absorbs carbon dioxide. Both will receive a Euro 10,000 grant to continue their research. (DS)
