At Hong Kong's annual fashion week expo, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) activists stopped one of the opening shows on January 15, 2007 night.
When models were flaunting creations by local designers Peter Lau and Cecilia Yau, protestors got onto the catwalk with banners 'Fur hurts' and 'Cecilia and Peter: Fur scum' shouting anti-fur slogans. They were thrown off the stage and driven out of show.
Fashion designers and models were disappointed due to anti-fur protests by animal rights campaigners.
Since the country does not prohibit use of pelts, organizers Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) allowed fur based exhibitors to participate in the show.
On January 16, 2007, PETA activists held a rally outside the local downtown outlet of global fashion label Burberry, to demonstrate against its sale of fur.
