Due to participation of professional and other Arab designers through 8,000 gold jewellery pieces, Pan-Arab Gold Jewellery Design Contest (PADC) 2006 ('Al Ibda'a Al Hur') was a big hit.
Overwhelming response from designers worldwide led to the World Gold Council (WGC) extend its deadline for sending entries. PADC is expected to grow in 2007 as it set records last year.
A panel of judges belonging to WGC and L'azure assess entries carefully, which makes getting through the contest difficult. Rights to winning designs are secured by L'azure.
PADC 2006 received a total of 8,000 entries, of which 1,000 commendable designs were short-listed by the panel. Of the 1,000, best 100 designs were chosen and 30 of them were finally earmarked to be made in L'azure's Saudi Arabian facility.
Designers were asked to make creative designs instead of usual ones this time, as well as to take inspiration from international designers according to WGC's PR Manager Lama Saheb.
