Artistic talent now working alongside celebrated designers in the heart of America's fashion capital will be showcased during the Third Annual Fashion District Arts Festival running from October 15 – 21.
Sponsored by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District, the Festival calendar will feature 175 events over the 7-day period.
More than 200 visual artists and 8 performances will be included at 50 venues, with Off-Broadway performances, gallery exhibits, avant-garde performance art, and behind-the-scenes visits to artists' studios.
In addition, contemporary takes on traditional art forms such as pottery, papermaking and printmaking will be on display. Festival events are free, unless otherwise noted.
“The Fashion District is not only a global center of couture, but it also has emerged as a center of cultural and artistic life,” said Barbara Blair Randall, executive director of the Fashion Center BID.
“The week-long Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to the area, celebrates the vibrancy and creativity of the neighborhood. It's an authentic New York experience and it's all right here!”
One of the most unique aspects of the festival will be the district loading bays that will come alive as exhibition spaces.
Chashama will present 8 exciting performance-installations by emerging New York City artists in loading bays and their window performance space.
Light installations by Lightswitch will occur in 3 locations throughout the district, including the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
