Marks & Spencer presents ASBCI Student Design Innovation Award

Emma Jones in joint third place was applauded for her super soft 'Sensory Soother' teddy bear dressing gown that had a concealed microchip recording device and small speakers integrated into the garment design and activated by a soft switch. As Paschal Little explained: “Lullabies or parents' stories could be recorded and then played to the child. There was even a timer so time limits could be set.”
The gown also folded into a hood to create a pillow and the fabric was infused with soothing camomile and lavender. Katie Webb's third place design, the 'Star Gazer' coat featured speakers in the hood activated by Bluetooth and made sounds to alert parents' to a child's location.
Paschal Little went on to describe: “There was also a solar powered GPS tracking device in the coat's sleeve which could be activated by the police in an emergency.”
The ASBCI Student Design Award, now in its 15th year, is one of two national student awards to support and showcase new talent coming into the fashion industry. Run by the ASBCI student membership committee, the ASBCI Student Design Award and the ASBCI Dissertation Award are open to all final year students studying at fashion colleges throughout the UK.
The ASBCI student membership committee was established to give students working towards design, technical and laboratory testing, textile design, retail business and many other related qualifications a greater practical and commercial understanding of the fashion industry.
