Gen Next Fashion stars of tomorrow revealed their fabulous collections at lakme fashion week for spring/summer 2010. Six very talented young designers from the top fashion institutes in India presented their collections to thunderous applause at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 Gen Next show

Amarlraj Sengupta
For a collection called “Kendo” inspired by martial arts, the designer used a colour story of white, cream, grey and yellow for linen, cotton and jute that was turned into unconventional structured women's wear with colour blocking that moved away from the obvious. Overlapping button closures, angular lines for pockets and hems and tops with intricate sleeves and shoulder detailing, projected the collection which was young, trendy and perfect look for summer.

Masaba Gupta
Recently graduated from the Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic Fashion Design section, SNDT University, where her creations won the best collection award, Masaba proved that she has learnt the art of designing rather well. Sticking to her favorite patchwork the collection called Kattran in handloom silk and cotton was a blend of the rustic with the contemporary. Anarkali mini, checked black and white jacket, striped pyjama, dhoti, a striking white and green sari and a vibrant jumpsuit in patchwork were eye catchers in a collection that was a great mix of the east and west.

MEHAK JAIN
Launching her label “Beyond” the designer brought together the colours of rustic wear with western silhouettes in hand and machine knitted wool and cotton for pinafore, shorts, and dresses and then moved to some woven options for a full circle white smock with earthy multi coloured appliqués on the hem. The amazing plastic footwear with some of the garments was as eye catching as the collection.

Rahul Anand
Titled “God Must be Crazy” the designer felt that normal items like fabrics and textures were not of great importance but resorted to quirky items like iron buckets, plastic mugs, bottle brush, light bulbs and anything that one would buy in a convenience store as embellishments.

With whirling fans on the head, birds on shoulders and carbon blue as the predominant colour the creations had abstract shapes for skirts, blouses, tunics and dresses. The layering for silhouettes proved that the designer was truly pushing the envelope of design for the collection. Quirky and wacky but very creative was Rahul Anand's opening collection of the day.

Sabbah Sharma
Fashion geometrics came into focus for this range as orange, red and white diagonal checks made and interesting base for the collection called “Mosaic” featuring dresses, pants, draped tops in woven silk which were textured and patched for effect. Creating an impressive red cutwork bolero on an ivory mini and a one shoulder cutwork cover, along with checkered dresses, the overall look was utterly feminine and beautifully elegant.

Shreya Sharma
With colours like grey, pink, brown, plum, yellow, fuchsia the designer added on drapes with a lot of ombre touches for a delightful cocktail line of dresses and tunics some of them worn with loose tops. The goddess gowns in the end with interesting sari drapes and the side belted minis were the highlight of the line.
