It's class, not brass that counts when it comes to the selection of labels. The GREENshowroom lays down a clear marker for quality rather than quantity. In the intimate ambience of the hotel suites, a limited number of exclusive labels present their 'green' luxury products.
The concept encompasses fashion, accessories, jewellery, beauty and lifestyle products from international manufacturers. At the show, once again, is: My biotiful bag, the French brand label that not only provides Hollywood's celebrities with their eco-friendly, fair-trade bags, but is also experiencing great success in Japan.
"We give the topic of sustainable fashion its own platform. We are very satisfied with the way our trade fairs have developed and we are once again looking forward to being able to welcome an exciting mix of exhibitors at the upcoming fashion week, who are all very much at home in the 'green' segment," states Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, as he describes this by now well tried and tested event concept.
Along with the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin - the trade fair for sustainable casual and streetwear in the 'ewerk' building – Messe Frankfurt's two events in Berlin, both held during the Berlin Fashion Week, form the centre for 'green' and 'fair-trade' fashion in Germany.
'Salonshow' showcases selected collections
The glamorous Salonshow on 16 January is the highlight of the trade fair. Here, invited guests are able to see for themselves the latest elements of the 'green label' collections on the catwalk. The selected products, which come from the fashion, beauty and accessories industries, offer a representative cross-section of the breadth and diversity of the GREENshowroom portfolio.
Award-winning ESMOD-Berlin graduate exhibits at the show
At the time of the M.A. Graduation Show for the first Masters Course in "Sustainability in Fashion" at ESMOD Berlin, Magdalena Schaffrin, founder of the GREENshowroom, was a member of the adjudicating panel that allocated the awards for the students' final assessment projects.
From the twelve graduates, she chose Stefanie Stolitzka with her project "Vios – the natural way": "Her work stands out because of the well-supported research on leather and its alternatives in the manufacture of sports shoes. Particularly impressive is the fact that the project resulted in an almost marketready, sustainable shoe collection. Remarkable too, was the interdependence of design and sustainability, the attention to detail and, indeed, the packaging and marketing." As the prize, Messe Frankfurt awards exhibition space at the GREENshowroom.
