The high fashion eco trade fair Greenshowroom, held at Berlin’s Adlon Kempinski hotel, draws to a close after celebrating a compelling eighth season.

As part of Berlin’s Fashion Week, a total of 30 highend exhibitors, 19 from outside of Germany, showcased their sustainable Spring/Summer 2014 collections from July 2nd – 4th, 2013.

“Once again, rising visitor numbers and exciting international labels underscored the evolution of green and fair fashion, away from the niche and – via our trade fair – into the shops”, sums up Detlef Braun, managing director of Messe Frankfurt.

With a total of 103 exhibitors at the Greenshowroom and the associated Ethical Fashion Show Berlin at ewerk, both events by Messe Frankfurt managed to build on previous successes. Prominent politician Renate Künast, chairwoman of the Green Party/Bündnis 90, lauded the event after attending the opening. “The collections on display are high-quality and on trend.”

Popular focus: the Salonshow

To start the trade fair in style, July 2nd kicked off proceedings with a glamorous Salonshow. 54 looks by 20 of the participating brands met with an enthusiastic response from buyers and media representatives alike.

Among the labels on display, selected from both trade events, were Aleks Kurkowski, Alma & Lovis, Anaïs Guille, Cocccon, Deepmello, Dutch Basics, Edelziege, Elsien Gringhuis, Katharina Kaiser, Katlen Thiel, Lanius, Luxaa, Monika Schneiter, Reet Aus/Beximco, Royal Blush by Jana Keller, Studio Jux, Tatjana Prijmak, Toni Kobleder, Swiss Affaire and Vilmava. Showing off next year’s summer trends, catwalk highlights included flowing evening gowns by Tatjana Prijmak as well as bright, bold and beautiful pops of colour by Edelziege, Deepmello or Lanius. Meanwhile, Katlen Thiel promoted laid-back knitwear looks while Aleks Kurkowski provided plenty of sartorial inspiration for the males of the species.

Satisfied exhibitors and plenty of new sales contacts

Underscoring its position as a green fashion hotspot, the Greenshowroom continued to attract high numbers of visitors – and many retailers have come to see the event as a welcome Berlin Fashion Week fixture. German designer Tatjana Prijmak, a first-time Greenshowroom exhibitor, professed herself pleasantly surprised by the strong and lively interest in her products.

“We had a great media response and established relationships with new buyers.” Katharina Kaiser, who returned to the Greenshowroom after a successful debut, also enjoyed the added attention for her collection. “We are extremely happy with the high quality of the attendees. There were many buyers and retailers – from Germany and abroad – who usually buy conventional fashion, but this time around made the special effort to come over from the large trade fairs.”

A hub for Berlin’s green scene: the “GreenLounge“

On July 3rd, the Greenshowroom, the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and Innatex hosted a networking party at Umspannwerk Kreuzberg. The key nighttime event for the green fashion scene played host to a wide range of industry, trade and media representatives.

The next Greenshowroom is scheduled to take place from January 14th – 16th, 2014.
