Tandy Leather Factory reports 6% rise in April sales

Tandy Leather Factory Inc reported today that sales for the month of April were $4.3 million, an increase of 6 percent from $4.1 million last year. Year to date sales are up 12 percent to $18.7 million in the current year from $16.8 million last year.

Retail Leathercraft posted a 21 percent sales increase for April, with sales totaling $1.7 million compared to $1.4 million in April 2005. The 44 comparable stores posted a 2 percent same store sales gain for the month. The 14 stores opened since March 2005 added April sales of $263,000.

Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $7.2 million this year, a 27 percent increase over sales of $5.7 million for the same period of 2005. As of the end of April, the same store sales gain for the 42 comparable stores is 9 percent for the year.

Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2.5 million for April. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the comparable wholesale centers' sales were $2.1 million for April, the same as April 2005 sales.

The National Account group posted an April sales gain of 4 percent. For the year to date, Wholesale Leathercraft sales are $10.9 million compared to $10.5 million in 2005, an increase of 4 percent.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Wray Thompson, commented, "April sales were not as strong as we would have liked.

However, we had one less sales day this year compared to April 2005 which can have a significant impact on the monthly comparisons. Nevertheless, we are on track for a solid quarter."
