Hilfiger seeks riches in Rags

Tommy Hilfiger has invested $20 million in the original feature film "Rags" set to go into production in New York this summer. The fashion mogul had earlier sold Tommy Hilfiger Corporation to Apax Partners in a deal worth US $1.6 billion.

Hilfiger said, 'now that I closed the deal to sell my fashion company, I plan to invest more personal time and capital in productions within my own entertainment company.'

He had opened Tommy Hilfiger Entertainment six years ago and had been involved in the music and certain television but at present he would like to be more serious about media.

"Rags," an all together piece set in the fast-paced, competitive world of the New York fashion industry, provides an insider's look at the highs and lows of the business as seen during the eyes of a fashion publicist, an experienced model, an administrator and a hopeful fashion designer and many others.

The thought for the film arrived during production of CBS' "The Cut," the realism show that offered artistic unknowns a prospect to design street wear for Hilfiger's fashion firm. Dale S. Lewis wrote the "Rags" treatment, and will also direct it.

Just before exploring the film's main characters, Hilfiger took the film's innovative team to New York Fashion Week in February where he set up interviews with Jennifer Lopez, Karl Lagerfield, Bill Blass, Janice Dickinson, Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, amid others.

Tony Smith Producer said, 'we are looking at a great supporting cast and hopefully lots of great cameos but mostly it was helpful for us to get inside Tommy's world and get good, solid information firsthand.'

Hilfiger added, 'our story is very genuine in approach because of the inside knowledge that we have of the fashion trade and how it works. It's loaded with comedy, drama, lust, laughter --all sorts of emotions.'
