The trend in women's denim are going in 2 directions; Osaka in the west going in one, and Tokyo in the east going the other. The trend for premium jeans have slowly settled down and this spring and summer was supplied with abundant types of denim.

Salopette, baggy, skinny, short, and etc. Among these trends, department stores in Osaka had sold baggy jeans at a positive pace, whereas those in Tokyo are strong in skinny denims.

Hankyu Department store, one of the most popular department stores in Osaka's ranking of women's denim is as below:

1st – Boot Cut (The number of brands and volume is the largest. Still, its ratio within women's denim is decreasing bit by bit.)

2nd-Baggy (Ratio up to 15 percent)
The baggy style is popular among women around 30's, but the trend begun among the college students around the Kobe area. Kobe girls fashion is a style that is focused at large among those in the west.

The baggy pants trend gradually flowed to those in the 30's to the point that baggy pants from popular brands sell out at a fast pace. Retailers are facing the problem of not holding enough stock to supply the high demand.

On the contrary in the east side of Japan, department stores are seeing more movement in salopettes, short denim, and skinny styles. Short salopettes lead the trend with about 100 pieces selling a month at some retailers whereas baggy jeans only sell about 100.

If salopettes are not the top item, denim shorts take the prize, especially those that are about 21 to 27 cm in lengths (below crotch). These items come as 3rd and 4th place in department stores in Osaka simultaneously.
