JC Penney appoints Thomas as new CIO & EVP

J. C. Penney Company Inc announced the appointment of Thomas M. Nealon to the position of Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective Oct. 2.

In his new position, Mr. Nealon will oversee the Company's information technology, including the design and ongoing development of systems and infrastructure to support the Company's strategic business objectives.

Among his responsibilities is leading the development of systems for jcp.com, the billion-dollar e-commerce site that serves as the hub of the Company's multichannel retailing strategy linking stores, catalog and the Internet. He will report to Myron E. (Mike) Ullman, III, chairman and chief executive officer, and join the Company's Executive Board.

Mr. Nealon, 45, brings over 20 years of experience in designing and implementing technologies for leading corporations. He comes to JCPenney from EDS, where he served on assignment as the senior vice president and chief information officer at Southwest Airlines.

For the last four years, he led the transformation of Southwest Airlines' technology organization and the improvement of all business processes surrounding customer interactions.

His many accomplishments and contributions led to significant technology-driven enhancements in nearly every major area of the business including ground operations, flight operations, maintenance and engineering, schedule planning.

"Tom is a leader in his field bringing an impressive blend of demonstrated leadership, technological deployment and operational excellence to JCPenney," said Ullman.

"Information technology is a critical component to our continued success and it plays an integral role in all aspects of our business. We are confident that Tom's expertise, coupled with his vast understanding of customer relationship management, will be particularly valuable as we focus on being a leader in performance and execution in support of our Long Range Plan for growth."
