L'Oréal has announced its acquisition of the French Laboratoire Sanoflore, a pioneer in the design, manufacture and marketing of certified organic cosmetics products.

Founded 20 years ago in south-eastern France, Sanoflore manufactures and distributes through pharmacies and specialist shops its ranges of cosmetics and aromatherapy products.

Sanoflore handles all the stages in the aromatic and medicinal plant chain, from cultivation with partner farmers to the finished product. All Sanoflore cosmetics products are certified by Ecocert and labelled as organic products.

Sanoflore, which employs 147 people, will achieve sales of about 15 million euros in 2006, including 20% outside France. Sanoflore will become part of L'Oréal's Active Cosmetics Division.

"We are delighted to be welcoming Sanoflore, a company which specialises in natural and organic products, to the family," said Brigitte Liberman, Managing Director of L'Oréal's Active Cosmetics Division, "Having Sanoflore on board will enhance our ability to be even more responsive to the aspirations of each consumer."

"This is truly an alliance of expertise, combining the experience and knowledge of an organic brand, the integrity of whose formulas and values we will preserve, with the know-how and research capabilities of the L'Oréal group."

"We are determined in our aim to internationalise Sanoflore, making its products available all over the world to consumers whose appetite for natural and organic products is constantly growing."

Stéphane Richard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sanoflore, said: "Joining the L'Oréal group will enable us to speed up our development both in France and internationally, while clearly reasserting the identity of our company and its close links with the world of organic ingredient suppliers."
