“As well as showcasing the best of Australian fashion we are part of a global industry and make it a priority to attract design leaders from around the world to speak at our annual Business Seminar. Philippe Starck, Joe Corre and Serena Rees, Philip Treacy. Vittorio Radice, Li Edelkoort, Clements Ribeiro, Richard Tyler, Colin McDowell, Tyler Brulé and Mary Portas are just some of the names that have been involved in the Festival over the years”, said Ms Webster.
As well as showcasing the collections of more than 150 designers and labels, the 2007 Festival Business Seminar features international industry leaders: Topshop retail genius Jane Shepherdson, LVMH advisor Jean Jacques Picart, British design phenomenon Jasper Conran, Paul Charron, CEO of Liz Claiborne Inc and dynamic New York styling duo, Jesse Garza and Joe Lupo of Visual Therapy.
Launching the autumn/winter collections of Australia's leading designers, the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival celebrates the breadth and depth of Australian fashion: from experimental and avant garde fashion from emerging designers through to innovative High Street shopper brands. Nearly all Festival events are ticketed so that the general public can buy into what is normally a rarefied experience for the fashion elite.
The mix on the catwalk is equally inspired: iconic models Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangelista, Carmen dell'Orefice and Veruschka have all walked the Festival's runways, while Megan Gale, Gemma Ward and Nicole Trunfio are among the Australian beauties to emerge internationally.
Whether it's a divinely produced runway show of international quality or a free public tour of designers and artists working in their studios – the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival is proudly taking fashion to the people.
