Magic of Vikram Phadnis at Lakme Fashion Week

From the gentle twittering of birds to the soothing spiritual music which ended in the majestic Gayatri mantra; Vikram Phadnis's show at the Lakme Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2008 was an ethereal journey of fashion.

Searching through the beautiful weaves of the country Vikram selected the most fabulous silks in solids, checks and stripes; added large does of multicoloured floral and geometric motifs on the hemlines, sleeves necklines and bodice and came up with a story book of Indian textiles that will make a brilliantly colourful offering for the summer.

The colour palette was a vibrant selection of red, orange, fuchsia, green, blue, purple, beige, black and ivory for silhouettes that were a fusion of the east and west as swinging smocks, minis, sheaths, angarkhas 'A' line and bubble dresses and calf length skirts with glittering blouses were presented in all their ethnic splendour.

The calf length capris and churidars in a myriad colours and fabrics were the constant match with the garments.

Stunners in the collection were the asymmetric horizontal striped short jacket with ornate white embroidery on cuffs and placket, some dramatic long line kurtas replete with geometric embroidery, an umbrella shaped smock with embellished yoke and hem and balloon capris with a figure hugging formal blouse.

Swirling calf length rustic ghagras were teamed with traditional blouses with a burst of embroidery to add that extra glamour.

Silk, glitter, embroidery and Vikram Phadnis's creative touches come together to make this Spring/Summer 2008 collection one of the most colourfully composed for the coming season that will give the Indian woman new options for formal wear.
