Expect the unbelievable and the impossible from designers Rahul Firdos; and the duo will never disappoint you.
Their Spring/Summer 2008 collection at Lakme Fashion Week called Ferryman's Tale was a journey into the impossible realms of construction that only these two talented designers could have dreamt of.
Using the beauty of the chikankari fabric and merging it with the splendorous Mashru developed on the looms of Bhagalpur, which has the feel or silk and the ease of pure cotton; the duo inspired by the arches and curves of majestic artistic motifs used them to caress the female form.
Shattering all norms of conventional construction – that a garment must have seams - the pair eliminated them from their line of the most ethereal dresses and allowed their brilliant construction techniques to form the complicated silhouettes of the garments.
Side, shoulder and armhole seams were missing from the pretty mini dresses with asymmetrical skirts, built in corset dresses, empire line minis and structured ensembles.
The colour palette did not move from ivory, white, salmon pink and nude. The curved delicate double breasted closures, the mix of chikankari and solids the clever winding insets that snaked around the body to present an unusually crafted garment, were a visual delight.
The show stopper was actor Neetu Chandra of Traffic Signal fame who modelled a beautiful diamond set by Giantti for Gitanjali.
Here were garments that can truly be termed as Second Skin and Rahul and Firdos have brought new millennium construction sensibilities with their brilliant collection, that will keep the design fraternity dissecting for months to come.
