Her inspirations are always very researched and her style mantra is very simple. Yet Deepti Toor has always made a very creative impact.
Her collection called Patachitra (painting) inspired by the art form from Orissa was meant for those smouldering hot summer days.
Using cotton and a blend of cotton and silk and the motifs and designs from that region; her colour story was more earthy with orange, brown, choclate, black, rust and mustard intermingled to form a perfect mélange for the coming season.
Using pleating as the prominat detailing for most of the garments, Deepti had them for bubble skirts but caught at the hem or knees.
Side drawstrings for tunics gave the simple dresses a new fashion angle. Colour and print blocking was in solids and prints woven around the same colour story of the collection but in horizontal mode.
Some of the interesting styles were the long printed tube with horizontal panelled pleat inset, the orange and black printed check creation with a pleated hem and the bubble shirt dress with pleated over-lapping yokes.
The silhouettes were lean and long or slightly voluminous but always minus fuss or frills. The smocks were cut close to the body and tubes allowed the beauty of the prints and motifs to tell their ethnic tales.
Deepti Toor's collection for Spring/Summer 2008 will be a hot seller for the coming season with its emphasis on the clever craftsmanship of the country and the comfort the garments will provide to the wearer.
