Stride Rite donates 4,000 shoes, commits money for American Red Cross

Lexington based Stride Rite Corporation response to the urgent need from families and children displaced by the unprecedented damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, The Stride Rite Corporation has donated over 4,000 pairs of shoes to the relief effort, and committed a financial donation to the American Red Cross.

Separately, many of the company's own Stride Rite retail store employees who work in the New Orleans/Gulfport area have been devastated by the storm and its aftermath, losing their homes and all their possessions. In response, the company has set up a fund to assist these associates.

To date, Stride Rite employees worldwide have donated more than $40,000 to their colleagues, which the corporation will match dollar for dollar. Stride Rite will also provide salary and benefit continuation to their displaced employees.

"Company sympathy and hearts go out to all the families who are coping with this overwhelming disaster. They hope that their donation and support will be of value to those most affected by this tragedy," said David Chamberlain, Stride Rite CEO and Chairman.

Stride Rite, through its various divisions, Stride Rite Children's Group, Keds, Sperry Top-Sider and Tommy Hilfiger, has sent over 4,000 pairs of shoes for children and adults to the relief effort through the Million Pair Match (http://www.katrinashoes.org).

In addition Keds Corporation will donate $1 for every sale on its website (http://www.keds.com) for the month of September to The American Red Cross; and Stride Rite Children's Group has given over 2,000 pairs of children's shoes to Cradles to Crayons (http://www.cradlestocrayons.org), a non-profit children's charity working directly with Katrina relief efforts.
