Terra secures boots contract from Canadian Air Force

Kodiak Group Holdings Inc President and CEO Kevin Huckle announced that Terra Footwear has been awarded a contract to manufacture 54,000 pairs of specially made boots for the Canadian Air Force at its modern Harbour Grace NL manufacturing facility.

The contract announcement is good news for the local economy because it means adding an additional 15 to 20 jobs in Harbour Grace within the next three months. The contract could surpass $12 million if two additional orders are placed beyond the original 54,000 pairs.

"We're extremely honored to receive this contract. Our troops will be able to walk tall in 100% Canadian-made boots. I'm proud of the Terra team and the tremendous work they do. Terra is a world-class industrial footwear manufacturer with an excellent workforce and two of the world's most technologically advanced industrial shoe manufacturing facilities in Newfoundland and Ontario," Huckle said.

"Terra's state-of-the art technology and workmanship strongly influenced our decision to purchase the company a year ago. We said we would strive to increase production levels at the Terra facilities and this contract definitely increases our capacity at Harbour Grace," Huckle added.

"The Terra team has worked hard during the past year to become the successful bidder for the DND contract. We're looking forward to continuing our work with a key supplier such as GORE-TEX, said Steve Hagarty, Terra's National Sales Manager.

Harbour Grace Plant Manager Dave Gill said Terra has upgraded a new production line to produce the new Air Force footwear. "We continue to invest in our production capability and recent improvements have allowed us to install a Goodyear Welt process that will be used to make the new boots," Gill said.

Terra employs 300 employees, from production personnel in Harbour Grace and Markdale, to sales staff throughout Canada and Europe. Terra Footwear products are sold in 23 countries including the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Germany, Australia and Italy. Kodiak Group Holdings Inc. purchased Terra in April, 2005.
