Wilsons The Leather Experts same-store sales slip in February

Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc has reported sales of $29.7 million for the four weeks ended February 25th 2006 as compared to $33.2 million for the four weeks ended February 26th 2005.
Same store sales decreased 9.3 percent for the four weeks ended February 25th 2006; this decrease compares to a 7.8 percent increase in comparable store sales for the four weeks ended February 26th 2005.
Michael Searles, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "In the first quarter of last year we were selling a significant amount of carry-over fashion clearance that we did not repeat this year. In addition, our aggressive promotional posture in the first six months of last year generated challenging comparisons for us as we entered 2006."
Wilsons Leather is the leading specialty retailer of leather outerwear, accessories and apparel in the United States. It operates 422 stores located in 45 states, including 298 mall stores, 110 outlet stores and 14 airport stores.
