Chanel has acquired British swim and resort-wear brand Orlebar Brown from shareholders, including Piper and founder Adam Brown, who will continue to lead it as creative director along with chief executive Paul Donoghue. The terms of the transaction remain disclosed. Launched as a digital brand in 2007, Orlebar Brown expanded in 2010 into a full resort range.

Orlebar Brown, with 40 per cent of its business done online, operates 24 direct retail stores and has more than 250 wholesale stockists worldwide.

According to Philippe Blondiaux, global chief financial offer at Chanel, the acquisition will lead to synergy between Orlebar Brown and Eres, the womenswear swimwear brand the French luxury house has owned since 1996, according to European media reports.

The move will also support Orlebar Brown's plans for expansion in the United States, Europe and Asia. (DS)
