Isko has published the new independently devised Product Category Rules (PCR) to allow the assessment of the environmental performance of woven, knitted, and crocheted fabrics of naturals fibres (except silk) for apparel sector, as a result of its commitment towards responsible innovation. Isko is the leading ingredient brand in quality denim manufacturing.

The publication is extremely important for the whole industry, leading the way for the definition of a common language for all producers and a better understanding of the value of sustainable products among brands and consumers, Isko said.

The company is the first denim manufacturer in the world to have obtained pre-certified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the Life Cycle Assessment (LCAs) of all its 25,000+ products. Aimed at ensuring a full transparency about the environmental impact of all fabrics in its collection, these EPDs were produced in the first place to fully understand where even better choices could and can be made. This effort is what made the creation of the PCR possible, which will help to have standardised assessments for future EPDs for the fashion world. Continuously taking on the responsibility to support the industry with best practices, this is part of Isko’s holistic, responsible mind-set with a long-standing focus on creativity, competence, and citizenship.

Isko Earth Fit, which is the pinnacle of its responsible innovation strategy, is the top-end collection when it comes to a fully integrated responsible approach and the only one worldwide to have been awarded both the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and EU Ecolabel certifications. Embracing articles from all the ISKO collections, it uses innovative and responsible fibres such as organic cotton, recycled cotton, and recycled polyester from PET bottles.

An environmental management system in place, certified to an international standard, ensures that environmental impacts (energy, water, waste, chemicals, and emissions) are managed at its production facilities. Also, as signatory member of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme, the company is firmly committed to avoid hazardous chemicals and harmful substances in its production processes, to preserve both the environment and the workers.
