According to a report, the price of shoes or footwear could soar by £15 (€22) a pair if the European Commission enforces anti-dumping taxes or duties on Chinese footwear imports.
Next month, the European member states are anticipated to vote on duties. Nearly two-thirds of member states are in favor to impose levies on Chinese imports when they vote on the issue on 24 January 2006 although the UK is fighting the move.
Retailers are likely to make shoppers foot the bill for any increase in duties, Price Waterhouse Coopers, the consultancy firm, warned yesterday.
Footwear associations like CEC are demanding anti-dumping measures on shoes from China and Vietnam.
