Ritu Beri, the New Delhi-based renowned International fashion designer, is all set to expand her horizons by opening a chain of lifestyle stores worldwide to cater clothes, accessories and other items under one roof.

The prolific fashion designer told fibre2fashion, “We are currently in the process of talks and working out details for opening a chain of lifestyle boutiques.”

Speaking about the changes that have taken place over the years in the fashion industry, she says, “The Indian fashion industry has undergone a tremendous metamorphosis, since the time I joined back in 1990. In those days, fashion was only a diversion for small elites. Initially, fashion was more about dressing for rituals like weddings and festivals, but now it has become more about being well dressed and trendy all the time.”

When quizzed about how the Indian fashion industry and its designers are faring in recent times, she replies, “Today our designers are constantly showcasing in various fashion capitals of the world. India’s fashion is being spotted on the fashionable ramps everywhere. However, Indian designers are still at a nascent stage as far as international market is concerned. For a designer to be taken seriously in the international market he/she should be consistent. Moreover, designers should prove themselves each time in showcasing their respective collections.”

The famed fashion designer also mentioned that designers worldwide have been constantly inspired by Indian designs. “Designers like Yves Saint-Laurent, Christian Marie Marc Lacroix and Jean Paul Gaultier have done a lot of work inspired by India’s rich culture and heritage. Hence, it is natural that India and its designers will therefore be noticed and celebrated everywhere,” she avers.
