Timberland in Fortunes '100 Best Companies to Work For' list

Designer and marketer of premium-quality footwear, apparel and accessories Timberland Company announced its inclusion on FORTUNE magazine's “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for 2006, ranked number 41.
This marks the ninth consecutive year Timberland has appeared on the FORTUNE list – one of only 20 companies that have received this prestigious recognition every year since the list's inception.
Companies are selected for the list based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of the company's employees.
Two-thirds of the total score comes from responses to a random survey of employees about such things as attitudes towards management, job satisfaction and camaraderie within the organization.
The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture.
“Their goal and their commitment are to make it better – in their workplaces, in their communities, in their world,” explains Jeffrey Swartz, Timberland's President and Chief Executive Officer.
“It is extremely humbling to receive this recognition of their efforts, and inspiring to see how other companies are executing their own make-it-better efforts.”
FORTUNE lauded Timberland for innovative and socially-responsible “perks” that benefit not only employees but also the world they live in.
For example, the company provides a $3,000 incentive for employees to purchase hybrid vehicles – a benefit that has gained quick popularity in light of recent gas prices.
