US based manufacturer of foot therapy products, Okabashi Brands Inc announced it will donate 2,500 pairs of its sandals and clogs to US troops, especially those returning from service in Iraq.
Okabashi has already sent 500 pairs, and the remaining pairs will be sent during early 2006.
"The military is under a great deal of pressure as a result of the missions overseas.
Making the soldiers lives easier, in any way possible, makes a great deal of sense.
Their products help relieve foot and back fatigue, especially after wearing heavy boots.
They are delighted to be able to contribute in a small way to the well being of their troops and those recovering in military hospitals," said Bahman Irvani, president and CEO of Okabashi Brands.
Okabashi is working with the USO of Metropolitan Washington to distribute its shoes to military coming through Fort Belvoir or those staying at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center and the Aeromedical Staging Facility at Andrews Air Force Base.
"USO-Metro is able to provide its numerous programs and services through the support of companies like Okabashi.
Their donation of therapeutic shoes will bring a touch of comfort to service members and their families," said Elaine B Rogers, president of the USO of Metropolitan Washington.
The USO of Metropolitan Washington DC (USO-Metro) enhances the quality of life for military personnel and their families by helping them adjust to the special rigors of a transient military life-style.
