World's richest black woman has fashion designing roots

Folorunsho Alakija, the West African oil baroness who has been recently termed as the world’s richest black woman, boasts of a strong connection with fashion designing and is a well-known designer in her native country Nigeria.
 
The fashionista, who has dethroned the American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey from her position of the world’s wealthiest black woman, studied fashion designing from England in the early 1980s.
 
The 61-year-old tycoon, who owns a fortune worth US$ 3.2 billion, runs a premiere clothing label called ‘Supreme Stitches’, which caters exclusively to Nigeria’s elite clientele.
 
Considered as one of the pioneers in Nigerian fashion, her designs focus mainly on intricate colourful printed apparels.
 
Owner of FAMFA Oil Limited, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Folorunsho Alakija holds a respectable position in the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FDAN).
