Peru’s first ever fashion show in China has been a big hit, especially due to the display of clothing made from alpaca fibres, Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has announced, an ANDINA report said.

Organized by the Peruvian embassy in Beijing, the show – First Peruvian Fashion Show -Beijing 2013 – was accomplished with support of Peruvian designer Sumy Kujon, who showcased her latest collection “Nómade (Nomad), Fall-Winter 2013”, which comprised of 24 suits, hand-made by blending baby alpaca fibre with silk.

Peru’s ambassador to China, Gustavo Gutiérrez said the show formed a part of the activities of the Consulate General of Peru in China, Macao and Hong Kong.

The event extended a platform for promotion of "Peru Moda 2013", the 16th edition of Peru's International Exhibition of Clothing Industry, slated to be held in the city of Lima from April 10-12, he said.

The expo would showcase the best that Peru has to offer in exportable clothing, and this makes it the best platform for developing business links with leading importing companies from across the world.

Recognized for versatility, feminity and use of Peruvian fibres, Sumy Kujon’s collection was also showcased at the Madrid Fashion Week.
