Chinese import of cheap leather products is the cause of concern for many footwear manufacturers in Europe, lamented ANCI, the Italian trade organization for shoemakers.

Footwear manufacturers of Europe feared that more than 600,000 employees will be rendered jobless if Brussels, administrative centre of the European Union did not take strong and swift action to stop inflow of cheap imports from China.

ANCI stated about 75,000 employees engaged in footwear industry lost their jobs last year from the total of 600,000 from the manufacturers and suppliers segments.

What is more tragic is that thousands of footwear firms are going out of business in Italy, and across Europe too.

European Union is analyzing data on hand to see whether China is guilty of 'dumping' shoes on the European market - selling them at prices lower than the cost of raw materials, sources infomred.
