“Postcards from Banaras” was inspired by the status of progressive women in India’s changing social scenario and aimed at the strong freedom loving lady. White was undoubtedly the perfect choice for the collection, but Masaba kept the silhouettes more androgynous with a definite corporate influence.
The styles moved from sensuous to structured giving the fusion women’s wear line from the designer a very strong feminine flavour.
With four distinct prints – people, tulip, fan and rose splashed onto the garments with muslin, Lycra, net, and crêpe as the base, the collection had many innovations that will become trends.
Masaba opened the show with National Award winning star Parineeti Chopra in an elegant people printed jacket with a pink dhoti skirt which set the pace for the fusion silhouettes.
Cape shirts with sharara pants, overlapped dress, shirt dress with embroidered net maxi skirt, a line up of petal skirts and palazzo pants gave a variety of options.
Body suits looked great with high slit Lycra skirts and the five saris were given a superb treatment with lean net covers that almost turned the traditional Indian drape into stylish gowns. Colours matched the mood of the show with black and white coming in with pink, green and yellow.
For women who love making a striking impact on the fashion scene, “Postcards from Banaras” by Masaba will be a ‘must have’ in their wardrobes.
