FIT & Rena Sussman (textile designer) at Déjà Vu, DUMBO

Fashion Institute of Technology's (FIT) faculty members will present the exhibition Déjà Vu, from February 7 through March 4, at Gallery 230, 55 Washington Street, DUMBO, Brooklyn.
Organized annually by a committee of the School of Art and Design, the exhibition will include paintings, collages, sculptures, prints, photo-etchings, videos, and digital works.
More than 35 works by 17 faculty members from 11 undergraduate departments will be shown. Gallery space was donated by David Walentas and Two Trees Management Company.
Déjà Vu refers to the theme of recurring images in the artists' works on view. It may take the form of a design element or a subject, like the beach, seen in the paintings of Anthony Martino of the Fine Arts department.
"The beach has always been a theme which allows repetition and variation in primary and earth grays to convey changing light," he says. "I make several paintings to study these combinations of recurrent color."
Another contributor is Rena Sussman-Silverman of the Textile/Surface Design Department. A textile designer for over 30 years, she uses paisley as a repeated design in her mixed media work. "The paisley has been a traditional motif for centuries, and I have tried to incorporate this motif in a new, contemporary way," she says.
A State University of New York college of art and design, business and technology, FIT offers more than 30 associate's, bachelor's, and master's degree programs.
