Leading cosmetic company L'Oreal Paris and Varsity Media Group announced Granite Bay High School in Granite Bay, California as the grand-prize winner of the first "You Make the Commercial" contest.
Armed with only a production kit and the challenge to create a 30 second commercial for either L'Oreal Paris Colour Juice or Studio Line "Hot" brands, Granite Bay's commercial, "Juicy," beat out over 110 entries from 92 participating schools to grab the top honors.
The contest created so much excitement among high schools that every production kit was distributed in less than a week and the top 25 commercials posted for online voting received more than a quarter million votes in less than a month.
The student production team of Marshal Downey and James Meder, along with teacher Marty Newborn, has won $3,000 for Granite Bay High School to put towards school programs and the opportunity to attend an upcoming L'Oreal Paris commercial shoot.
In addition, their winning commercial will air on Varsity TV and www.VarsityWorld.com beginning in March and will run through April.
"The L'Oreal/Varsity contest gave them a high mark to shoot for," said Marty Newborn, "They knew that the best schools would be after the prize and that those schools are capable of great things.
It made winning the grand prize that much more exciting."
"L'Oreal Paris was thrilled to partner with Varsity Media Group and all of the participating highschools for this contest," said Carol J Hamilton, President of L'Oreal Paris.
