The Runway Ignites May 2nd with San Francisco State’s Annual Night of Fashion, Apparel Design & Merchandising Students Present Runway 2013: Ignite

Limited seating is available for the May 2nd night of fashion brought to you by San Francisco’s newest crop of designers, as the Apparel Design & Merchandising students of San Francisco State University showcase their work at Runway 2013: Ignite. The show features more than 200 innovative designs on the cutting edge of tomorrow’s style.

“Our mission,” says Kayla Odwald, Runway 2013: Ignite show director and president of the Fashion Network Association, “is to ignite a spark of inspiration that will excite our audience to see more and follow the careers of these future design stars."

Sustainability in the spotlight.

Showcased will be reconstructed and up-cycled designs made from textiles sourced from longtime community partner Goodwill Industries, San Francisco, and the San Francisco Hotel Initiative. By repurposing instead of using virgin materials, the designers draw attention to the over-consumption and waste within the fashion industry.

“We’re delighted to see what magic these talented designers have made again this year using raw material culled from Goodwill,” says Tim Murray, Director of Brand & Marketing for Goodwill, whose job training programs helped more than 7,000 local people in need prepare for work last year. “This show supports our focus on letting nothing – and no one – go to waste.”

The production is collaboration between Apparel Design & Merchandising and students from the Broadcast &Electronic Communications Art, and Design and Industry departments. The Fashion Network Association, an organization dedicated to creating a platform for students to gain fashion industry knowledge through creating, producing, and promoting fashion events and publications, is a proud sponsor.
