Aspiring young graduates showcase designs at NIFT Kolkata

From the Fashion Management Department, Nishta Agarwal won Best Academic Performance award and the Best Graduation Project in marketing award went to Agarwal and Sarwat Pawar. Nimisha Dhingra and Nikhita Fatehpuria won Best Graduation Project in Merchandising and Fashion Management Practices awards respectively.

Day Two

The fashion, leather and textile design students were given their degrees on Day 2 by the chief guest Tanushree Sankar, veteran dancer in the gracious presence of Prof Binwant Kaur, Director of NIFT Kolkata and all departmental faculty members.

The students presented their work in leather, fashion and knitwear design. This three-and-half-hour long fashion show witnessed 81 sequences. Models like Madhabilata, Dipsikha, Moitreyee, Titli, Dimpy, Sona, Sweety, Liza and Nick, sashayed down the ramp, giving the fresh fashion graduates the much needed support to showcase their talent.

The awards were given to the deserving students by eminent designers like Kallol Dutta, representative from Sabyasachi Couture (Mukherjee) and Shantanu Goenka, NIFT alumni in the presence of other designers like Abhishek Dutta, Dev R Nil, and the likes.

Mohammad Zuber won Student of the Year award, while Snigdha Seksaria, Pooja Das and Vidisha Jain won Best Academic Performance awards for fashion, leather and knitwear design respectively. Radhika Prashar won Best Design Collection award, while Poulomi Roy and Pooja Harbhajanka won Most Creative Collection for fashion and knitwear design respectively.

The Best Graduation Project awards went to Anish Kumar and Priyanka Kumari for leather designs while Vidisha Jain and Pooja Harbhajanka for knitwear design. Usha Gupta took Best use of Traditional Skills in Contemporary Styling award and Anish Kumar received Most Innovative use of Material award.

The award winners won cash as well as trophy. With parents being present among the audience it was a glamourous affair that came bundled with a dash of excitement and the trepidation of facing the public glare. The grand fashion show was followed by a lavish dinner that was gourmet’s delight.
