An exclusive collection celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema was showcased by Manish Malhotra in Bangalore. The collection was showcased at Embassy Grove on the 1st of June, 2013, marking the launch of STYLETAG.

An ardent fan of the movies, Manish had recreated the magic of past decades for the runway. The collection was inspired by the three main eras of fashion in Indian Cinema, from 1913 to 2013 and was a homage to the distinctive styles of every iconic period in Indian cinema.

Speaking about his love for cinema and passion for fashion, Manish said, “Cinema has been a part of my life and work for 23 years now.  When I received this opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema yet again in the vibrant city of Bangalore there was no looking behind. I plan to recreate an interesting collection that reflects my love for both cinema & fashion.”

On his collaboration with Styletag, Manish added “Styletag.com is a flash sales site selling high fashion merchandise sourced from boutiques across the country – it’s like a one-stop designer brick & mortar store.

"Styletag.com is positioned uniquely by the way pure designer wear portals where volumes are small and branded players where margins are small. Through a rigorous curation process, it offers its customers unique merchandise that is not mass produced and exclusive."

The silhouettes of the collection have been inspired by every iconic era. Starting with pieces in  classic shades of black and white from the 1930’s, and pretty pastel shades of 60’s, polka dots inspired by the 70’s, and moving on to the 80’s flower power.

From late 80’s and early 90’s onwards, Manish witnessed a strong emphasis on disco bling which evolved and was re-interpreted in different silhouettes. For Manish, 1990’s are evocative years where he also started designing for films, reinventing pastels, casual chic, shaded fabrics and thus lavish garments came into existence on the big screen.

Chikankari and Kashmiri embroidery are fused into period specific designs, bringing back the forgotten crafts to the runway. The collection has simple and clean cuts, making it relevant to a specific decade from the past, yet wearable and trendy in today’s time. The colour palette chosen by Manish for this collection ranges from black & whites that reflect the earlier years to a wide array of summer hues like corals and yellows on chiffons, georgette, silks and net.

On the occasion of its launch, STYLETAG - the High street fashion destination collaborated with Manish Malhotra. STYLETAG from the House of ffolio will be India’s first online curated fashion and lifestyle destination.
